On Wednesday morning, President Joe Biden was speaking at a news conference before leaving Madrid, Spain. During his speech, he was questioned by a reporter who asked him about his recent bad polling.
“As new polling this week shows that 85 percent of the US public thinks the country is going in the wrong direction, how do you explain this to those people…?” asked the reporter.
Biden responded emphatically, “They do not think that. You haven’t found one person… one world leader that thinks America is going backward.”
The reporter is referring to the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll that found that 85 percent of adults think America is on the wrong track and 79 percent rated the economy poor.
Biden then blamed the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v Wade for hurting America.
“The one thing that has been destabilizing is the outrageous behavior of the Supreme Court of the United States,” Biden continued. “And overruling not only Roe v. Wade, but essentially challenging the right to privacy. We’ve been a leader in the world in terms of personal rights and privacy rights. And it is a mistake, in my view, for the Supreme Court [to] do what it did.”
Biden also claimed, “Our inflation rate is lower than other nations in the world.”
Currently, the United States’ inflation rate is 8.6 percent.
Amongst the world’s G-7 Nations, France’s was 5.2 percent, Italy and Canada are at 6.8 percent, Germany’s inflation rate is 7.9 percent, and the UK is 7.8 percent. Japan has not put out their numbers yet.
Even Politifact had to admit the statement was half true, saying that Biden may have been alluding to the fact that there are Eastern European Nations with higher inflation. Okay. Sure.
This means that compared to the rest of the G7, without knowing Japan’s numbers, that Biden’s statement is very much untrue. The United States definitely has higher inflation than its closest peers.
On gas prices, Biden said that Americans will have to stomach the high gas prices for “as long as it takes.”
He also spoke about the historic invitations to Finland and Sweden to join NATO. Although, he accidentally mistook Sweden for Switzerland but caught himself and blamed it on the stress.
“This summit was about strengthening our alliance, meeting the challenges of our world as it is today and the threats we’re going to face in the future,” Biden said.
Biden then said that he will soon release $800 million in air defense, artillery, ammo and other military equipment to be sent to Ukraine.
“Putin thought we could break the trans-Atlantic alliance,” he went on. “He tried to weaken us, expected our resolve to fracture, but he’s getting exactly what he did not want.”
NATO also mentioned China and mentioned the relationship between Moscow and Beijing saying that their values run “counter to our values.”
Biden said about Ukraine, “We are going to support Ukraine as long as it takes.”
