When you hear the name Alec Baldwin these days, most people immediately think of the shooting of Halyna Hutchins on the set of the movie “Rust”. The last thing you would expect to hear is exactly what was just announced.
According tot he co-producers of the film, on which Baldwin was also a producer, the show must go on anyways!
Anjul Nigam, Baldwin’s partner, spoke to the Hollywood Reporter on the topic. He told them “Rust is obviously a horrific tragedy. The investigation will hopefully be resolved soon and will unveil what happened.”
Of course, it’s what Nigam said next that shows you exactly how these Hollywood types view these incidents. “Obviously, there will be people out there who will have negative perspectives, but we’re confident about continuing to make quality movies. We’re confident we’ll be able to complete the movie.”
So there you have it. And the movie wouldn’t be much of a movie without Alec Baldwin, who is cast as the lead. Baldwin himself has not yet commented on the plan to commence with shooting.
Alec was in hiding for months after it was revealed that he pulled the trigger on the loaded gun while pointing it directly at the camera, leading to the death of the cinematographer. Baldwin was quick to pass off blame to the Armorer, whom was tasked with weapons safety. Still, any responsible gun owner would have known to check themselves before ever doing something as dangerous as pointing it at someone and pulling the trigger.
Only a few weeks ago police finally released body camera footage of the scene where the shooting happened as well as their interview with the actor in which they told him that Halyna had died from her injuries.
The New Mexico Occupational Safety and Health Association investigated the shooting and concluded that Baldwin and the other producers were “wholly accountable” for the death.
OSHA said that the production company “knew that firearm safety procedures were not being followed on set and demonstrated plain indifference to employee safety by failing to review work practices and take corrective action.”
While Baldwin has made it clear that he does not blame himself for the shooting, it also seems to have had a devastating impact on his career. Do you think this movie will be successful despite the shooting? Do you think Alec Bladwin can ever stage a comeback?
