Rep. Jerry Nadler [D-NY] had a cozy chat on MSNBC’s The Weekend program, not worried a bit about facing any hard questions. After all, birds of a feather stick together. Nadler got to air his thoughts about blocking urgent military support for Israel without a shred of pushback from the liberal hosts.
Nadler voiced his approval for withholding the delivery of critical heavy weaponry to Israel just in case their military needs to stage an operation in Rafah. Interesting, since this voltage reversal doesn’t jibe with Nadler’s standpoint when Donald Trump was leading the nation. Back then, he was genuinely against using military aid as a bargaining chip.
Nadler readily explained his vote against a Republican bill aimed at ensuring ongoing military aid to Israel, mentioning that the bombs could cause significant damage above the ground. Now, let’s flashback to Nadler in 2019 under Trump’s presidency. He firmly held that the Israelis need defense aid, and it should not be used as a pressure tactic on certain policies. Fast forward to now, his flashy change in colors sees him proposing exactly the opposite.
Adding to this mixed bag, Nadler dunks Israel’s plan to erase Hamas permanently, branding it “nonsense”. Instead, he’s all in for Biden’s air-castle plan. This involves Arab nations sending their military forces to capture Gaza, leading to a possible representative Palestinian organization down the line, and continued Hamas existence alongside Arabs battling Arabs in Gaza. That certainly counts as a true taste of “nonsense!”
Under this umbrella of inconsistency, Nadler also voiced his opposition against the Republican-backed Antisemitism Awareness Act, amusingly taking pride in “leading the opposition” to it. So, let’s sum it up: Nadler has voted down a bill opposing antisemitism, rallied against a bill ensuring military aid to Israel, is okay with Hamas remaining in Rafah, and doesn’t hold back in criticising Israel’s leadership.
None of this prompted a whisper from the show’s liberal hosts. It kinda makes you wonder – maybe radical leftists Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, and Ocasio-Cortez could make room for an honorary member in The Squad- welcome aboard, Nadler!
Surely, this leftward swing of Nadler brings about worrying questions about the real positions of today’s Democratic leaders. Where’s the principle, the consistency in their views on geopolitical matters? By allowing such narratives to reshape without any challenge, we’re letting go of accountability. If America stands for justice, liberty and is truly the land of the free, then those endowed with authority to guide our laws and policies must stand firm and true to these American ideals.
