According to migration activists, one of the largest caravans in recent memory has set off from the southern Mexican-city of Tapachula headed toward the southern border of the United States. Some of them are hoping that Biden can help them in.
There are between 6,000 people, according to Reuters, up to 12,000 people, as quoted by Steve Bannon’s War Room, in the caravan headed through Mexico. They are mostly from Venezuela.
Fox News also said the caravan could become the largest in history to reach our southern border and could swell to 15,000.
“These are countries collapsing from poverty and violence,” Caravan organizer Luis Garcia Villagran said. “We strongly urge those who attend the summit … to look at what is happening, and what could happen even more often in Mexico, if something is not done soon.”
There were similar caravans in 2018 and 2019 that tried to cross the U.S. border.
President Joe Biden is set to announcing an immigration agreement this week at a summit in Los Angeles.
“We want a future for our children … we want to cross Mexico without any problems,” Colombian migrant Robinson Reyes said to Yahoo.

In the single month of April, Customs and Border Patrol announced that they had reached the highest number of encounters of migrants so far: 234,088. That’s a record and the fourth time that the Biden administration has topped 200,000 in monthly border attempts. An encounter is someone that is caught trying to cross and is stopped by border patrol. There could be more that were never encountered and made it into the country.
In April, CBP said that there were 1.06 million border encounters in 2022. In March, they encountered 221,303 migrants in March and released 80,000 into the United States. This is according to the Center for Immigration Studies.
Officials from the Department of Homeland Security estimate that more than 170,000 migrants are currently waiting on the other side of the border for title 42 to lift.
“He promised the Haitian community he will help them,” migrants said to Fox News about Biden. “He will recall Title 42. He will help us have real asylum.”
