Democratic West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin has proved that standing up to Joe Biden will be rewarded by the voters. Now, he may show his party that fighting against President Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and other leftists in Congress may be the only path to gain support from voters.
In the latest Morning Consult poll conducted from January 1st through March 31st, Senator Joe Manchin saw his approval rating jump 16 points over the past year, the largest increase of any current senator.
Manchin’s approval rating now stands at 57%.
Surprisingly, it has been Republicans who fueled the increase with 69% approving of Manchin while the Senator saw a ten-point drop-in Democrat support with only 44% of his party members supporting him. A majority of independent voters also approve of Manchin’s performance.
A similar poll at the beginning of 2021 had Manchin’s approval rating at 40%, a dangerously low number for any incumbent politician.
Since then, Manchin has been a pain in the side of Biden and the far left by fighting them on their radical agenda. Manchin dealt a deadly blow to the Build Back Better social spending bill and also refused to support eliminating the filibuster to pass a bill nationalizing elections.
These numbers strongly contrast the tight election Manchin won in 2018 as West Virginia has gone from solidly blue to blood red over Manchin’s tenure in the Senate. Manchin narrowly won reelection in 2018 by three percentage points in a state that Donald Trump overwhelmingly carried by 42 points in 2016 and 39 points in 2020.
