Legendary actor Tim Allen blasted Disney’s new Lightyear film after he was replaced as the voice of Buzz Lightyear.

Allen had stayed silent on the film’s release for months despite the role of Buzz Lightyear going to Captain America actor Chris Evans. However, the actor finally came forward about his real feelings on the new film during an interview with Extra this week.

According to Tim Allen, the new film has a decent storyline but failed to connect to the original Toy Story films.

“It’s a wonderful story, it just doesn’t seem to have any connection to the toy. It has no relationship to Buzz,” said the star of Home Improvement and Last Man Standing.

He went on to explain that the concept of a Buzz Lightyear prequel has been in the works for years, however the original Toy Story team wasn’t involved in the new movie.

“We talked about this many years ago…but the brass that did the first four movies is not this. It’s a whole new team that really had nothing to do with the first movies,” Allen stated before adding “I’ve stayed out of this.”

The actor also expressed his surprise at Disney’s decision to animate the film despite the recasting, saying he believed it was going to be a fully live action movie.

The new Toy Story film in the saga is widely seen as a flop despite the overall success of the movie series. According to Allen, the reason it failed to land was that Buzz Lightyear is nothing without his best pal Woody. “There’s really no Toy Story Buzz without Woody. I’m not sure what the idea—I’m a plot guy. It would seem to be a big adventure story, and as I see, it’s not a big adventure story,” he said.

Speculation has swirled that Allen was recast because of his outwardly conservative viewpoints, including openly supporting former President Donald Trump. Despite this, Disney insisted they cast Chris Evans in the role instead because Allen’s Buzz was the toy where-as this Buzz was supposed to be the space hero that the toy was based on, sort of a prequel.

Do you think Tim Allen is upset over the woke company handing off his iconic role to another actor? Do you think his casting could have saved the film or was it just a bad idea to make it in the first place?
