The City of Philadelphia recently agreed to a record-breaking $9 million dollar settlement to……get this……..the rioters hurt by police, not the people hurt by the riots or damages to the businesses.

This eye-popping figure has raised eyebrows amongst both conservatives and leftists alike, demonstrating the damage done by leftist politics and the hefty price tag that attends it.

Fox news reports, over 200 people were injured during police responses to protests following the murder of George Floyd in May 2020, and Philadelphia has agreed to compensate them for $9.25 million.

A record-breaking settlement was announced Monday by Mincey Fitzpatrick Ross, LLC, which represented 237 people injured in Philadelphia protests on May 31 and June 1, 2020.

Given the magnitude of the lawsuit, there were many allegations about the methods the police used to quell the riots.

Additionally, the city will stop participating in a federal program that provides extra military equipment to local police departments.

According to the report, Philadelphia agreed to pay $500,000 to provide counseling services to residents of the 52nd Street corridor in West Philadelphia who were victims of police violence.

According to the plaintiffs in the four federal lawsuits filed against the city, zip ties and rubber bullets caused nerve damage and scarring during the confrontation with police.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, exposure to noxious chemical agents like tear gas and pepper spray caused mental trauma and hospitalization.

Mayor Jim Kenney told FOX29 that police violence and racism have caused Black and Brown Philadelphians “pain and trauma” that is “immeasurable.”

Mayor Kenny added “While this is just one step in the direction toward reconciliation, we hope this settlement will provide some healing from the harm experienced by people in their neighborhoods in West Philadelphia and during demonstrations on I-676 in 2020,”

Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said the city police department is a “learning organization” and will continue to work toward improving policing in the city.

The commissioner said “Along with city, state and community stakeholders, we will continue to work non-stop towards improving what we as police do to protect the first amendment rights of protesters, keep our communities and officers safe, and to ultimately prove that we are committed to a higher standard,”

The controversial payout by the City of Philadelphia following damage caused by police to the protesters provides little solace to citizens unfairly affected by the damage to businesses, property damage and broken windows. Many are distraught that leftist agendas and insane politics have forced the city into a record-breaking $9 million dollar settlement in an attempt to push their agenda. It may be seen as a victory for those on the left, but ultimately these payouts do nothing to create any meaningful change or alleviate the sorrow of damage inflicted during protests. Citizens who now bear the cost of this damage may feel angry and disheartened that such extremist measures continue despite nobody condoning violence in any way. The fight for justice continues as damage done is compensated, however it remains to be seen if real solutions will come from these payouts or if it is just another example of insane leftist politics in an already sad situation.
