As the southern border crisis continues, 94% of American adults recognize the situation as a “crisis” or “problem,” according to a recent Gallup poll. It’s a stark reality that complicates any attempt by the Biden administration or the legacy media to downplay the severity of the border issue. The survey highlighted a clear public understanding of the escalating issues at the border even as attempts to camouflage the crisis abound.
In the Gallup survey conducted from June 1 – June 22, participants were asked, “Do you, personally, consider the situation at the U.S. border with Mexico to be — a crisis, a major problem, a minor problem, or not a problem for the U.S.?” The polling data illuminated the concern faced by the nation, with 39% perceiving it as a “crisis,” 33% as a “major problem,” and 22% acknowledging it as a “minor problem.” Notably, even within the Democratic party, only 7% declared the border issue as “not a problem.”
This predicament is further ignited by the millions who have entered the U.S. illegally under Biden’s watch, prompting changes in how the administration deals with illegal immigration. Yet, the policies advocated by Democrats seem to facilitate illegal immigration, rather than deter it.
A bone of contention is a new “parole” system introduced, allowing migrants who might otherwise cross the border illegally, legal entry into the country. This system effectively eliminates the demarcation between legal and illegal, as it replaces a need for a visa with a smartphone app used for filing asylum paperwork.
New data project this system to enable the administration to admit over half a million asylum seekers annually. The recent acceptance of 541,000 migrants through the parole authority throws up alarming statistics on national security, as reported by the Daily Wire.
The Biden administration has highlighted that this new method will spawn “order” at the border. However, these claims raise suspicions as the actions seem to redefine “order” in alignment with left-leaning ideologies, which involves processing illegal aliens through ‘legal’ measures, like the smartphone app, and releasing them into the country, instead of enforcing solid deterrents.
Lora Ries, Director of the Border Security and Immigration Center at The Heritage Foundation, pulled back the curtain on this strategy. Speaking with The Daily Wire, Ries criticized the administration’s tactics: “The administration is using a shell game, sending people through ports of entry instead of between ports of entry, and then declaring that an improvement on the border.”
Ries also stressed that the number of individuals entering is just as high, indicating a steady influx of thousands of individuals each month from around the globe.
The crisis at the border is prominent and prevalent. The administration’s response and new policies, far from addressing the issue, mask it and perpetuate an escalating problem. The American public recognizes this, as evidenced by the Gallup poll. The question remains – will the Biden administration heed the calls for change, or will it continue to play shell games with one the nation’s most pressing concerns?
The American people have spoken, and the urgency of the situation calls for transparency, rightful actions, and policies that truly address the border crisis. Let this serve as an awakening call for the administration to pay heed. For the security, order, and prosperity of a nation depends significantly on its borders, both physical and metaphorical.
