House Democrats have once again shown their disdain for Second Amendment rights by proposing a 1,000 percent excise tax on AR-15s and other so-called “assault weapons.” This outrageous proposal is just another example of their radical agenda to disarm law-abiding citizens and force them into submission.
Rep. Don Beyer and 24 other Democrats are behind this tax, which would also apply to “high capacity” magazines. This is just another attempt of the left to demonize and punish gun owners for exercising their constitutional rights. It is a disgraceful display of political grandstanding at the expense of law-abiding citizens.

If this tax were to be passed, the price of firearms would skyrocket. A $500 firearm would jump to $5,000 and a weapon that normally costs $2,000 would force customers to pay more than $20,000. This is a blatant attack on the working-class citizens who rely on firearms for self-defense, hunting, and sport shooting.
Democrats have been pushing this tax for years, and their latest attempt is nothing short of outrageous. Instead of focusing on real solutions to reduce gun violence, such as improving mental health programs and enforcing existing gun laws, they have chosen to attack law-abiding gun owners.
This tax would not only hurt gun owners, but also small businesses and the American economy as a whole. Many gun manufacturers are small businesses that would be forced to close their doors if this tax were implemented. This would result in job losses and a decline in tax revenue for local and state governments.
The Democrats’ push for new taxes on AR-15s and other firearms came just one day after they sent a letter to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, urging him to allow votes on gun control. This is just another example of the left trying to push their radical anti-gun agenda on law-abiding citizens.
It is time for Americans to stand up and fight against these unconstitutional attacks on our Second Amendment rights. We must hold our elected officials accountable and demand that they respect our right to bear arms. The left’s attempts to disarm American citizens will only lead to increased lawlessness and ensure that criminals are the only ones with access to firearms.
