A shocking act of vandalism has left the Washington Monument in disrepair. In a stunning turn of events, police have arrested a suspect in connection with the defacing of the Washington Monument. The monument, which is a symbol of American patriotism and history, was left with graffiti and damage that is estimated to cost millions of dollars to repair.
The Washington Monument was defaced over the weekend after an unknown vandal sprayed red paint on the 555-foot obelisk. This is just the latest in a series of attacks targeting national monuments and symbols of patriotism. The perpetrator has not yet been identified, but authorities say they have made an arrest in connection with the case.
According to The Daily Wire. An obscene question was scrawled in bright red paint on the side of the Washington Monument on Tuesday by a vandal.
In a tweet Tuesday evening, FOX 5 DC’s Katie Barlow shared a photo from the scene.
Nightly monument report. Someone has painted the the side with red paint. There is an individual in cuffs off to the side and police have blocked the area out to the grass. @fox5dc pic.twitter.com/s9HD84kPS0— Katie Barlow (@katieleebarlow) September 20, 2022
A closer look at the scrawled words revealed the question: “Have you been “effed” by this?” followed by a response, “Gov says tough S***”
There was also a large smear of red paint next to the words.
Immediately following her first tweet, Barlow posted a video showing law enforcement detaining someone.
WUSA9 anchor and reporter Adam Longo added in a tweet. “This is why we can’t have nice things. Some freedom loathing scumbag has defaced the Washington Monument with paint and vulgarities,”
FOX 5 DC’s Allison Papson gave an update tweeting. “The USPP has an adult male in custody for vandalizing the base of the Washington Monument with paint. The area at the base of the monument will be temporality closed. National Park Service conservators will work on the restoration process. The investigation is ongoing,”

The Washington Monument was completed 138 years ago, in 1884, when it was the world’s tallest building.
It’s just another day in America when leftists show their true colors. This time, they targeted the Washington Monument with obscene graffiti, asking passersby if they’d been “f***ed by this?” The monument is a symbol of our country and our freedom, and it was attacked by people who want to see us fail. We should be disgusted but not surprised by these actions. These are the same people who burn American flags and destroy monuments dedicated to our heroes. They love destroying anything that represents America. Let’s hope that we can overcome their hatred and continue building a better future for all Americans.
