With the United States seeing the most illegal immigrants coming across our border in the last year, it is clear that Joe Biden will continue to do nothing on the issue. Now we have a glimmer of hope as some Republican Lawmakers step in to address the issue.

Daily caller reports, On Thursday, dozens of Republican Texas Representatives unveiled a plan for securing the border that aims to reduce the number of illegal immigrants entering the country.

In addition to building a southern border wall, the lawmakers, including Reps. Dan Crenshaw and Chip Roy, hope to fix federal policies permitting the release of illegal immigrants. According to the plan, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will be able to deport more individuals in the country illegally and designate Mexican cartels as terrorist organizations. In fiscal year 2022, US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) encountered more than 2.3 million migrants at the southern border, with an additional 230,000 encountered in October.

In terms of interior enforcement, Republican lawmakers want the Biden administration to stop limiting ICE arrests and deportations. In September, the Biden administration restricted ICE’s targets to those who threaten border security, national security, and public safety.

The southern border recently achieved a new record.

According to the DailyCaller, a new agency report, released Friday by Customs and Border Protection (CBP), revealed that over 227,000 migrants crossed the southern border in September, outpacing every other September on record.

There were about 15% more unique migrant encounters in September than the previous month, primarily due to Venezuelan, Cuban, and Nicaraguan asylum seekers fleeing authoritarian governments. Unique encounters with individuals from those countries were 245% higher in September 2022 compared to September 2021.

In order to reduce southern border arrivals, the Department of Homeland Security and Mexico announced joint actions on Oct. 12. Venezuelans entering the U.S. between ports of entry would be returned to Mexico “effective immediately.” According to Magnus, Venezuelan arrivals at the southern border have declined almost every day since such actions began.

We need immediate action on the southern border. But even with proposed legislation coming from the Republicans, the Democrats have a majority in the senate and the President has veto power over any of the upcoming legislation that would be passed. It is unclear how any changes or new fixes would be implemented without Republican control, especially given Biden’s penchant to allow as many illegals into this country as he can so he can secure a wider voter base.
