PETA Proposes Insane  Swap: A ‘Human’ For Groundhog Day!

As a source of constant controversy and head-scratching acts, PETA has always been one to make unnecessary noise. Every year there’s a moment in our lives where something extraordinarily unpredictable happens that can make us drop our jaws out of shock- yup, it’s the thing that PETTA does best. Whether it’s viral moments or animal-centric initiatives, their commitment to bring something sick to the table never fails. Get ready because 2023 is no exception – New Year, same PETA.

As the year 2023 is underway, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has introduced a sickening stunt that they hope will turn heads as Groundhog Day quickly approaches. It involves sending a human in place of Pennsylvania’s beloved Punxsutawney Phil on February 2nd. As one can imagine, this has made waves throughout the media and locals alike, leading to much discussion about what this move could potentially mean for the future of Phil’s occupation and for PETA’s intentions. Whatever the outcome may be, we can be sure that this stunt will turn stomachs when it comes to predicting weather patterns.

The Washington Examiner reports, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is offering to send a human being to take the place of Pennsylvania’s famous Punxsutawney Phil ahead of Groundhog Day.

A Washington Examiner report said Punxsutawney Phil would be the last member of the Weather Discovery Center’s Meteorologist Hall of Fame.

LET’S TAKE A LOOK at the centuries-old tradition PETA is volunteering to end.

The century-old tradition is set to continue, provided PETA does not pull a ridiculous stunt.

36-year-old Amber Canavan from Portland, Oregon, who is volunteering to live in Phil’s enclosure and predict the weather, said she would gladly take Phil’s place if it spared him from a tedious life punctuated only by the confusion and terror of being dangled in front of a loud crowd every year.

The ridiculous volunteer added “Punxsutawney Phil did not consent to living in a box in a library, where he’s denied the opportunity to hibernate, dig, burrow, explore, or do anything else that matters to a groundhog.”

Here is a ridiculous billboard PETA put up to get attention.

PETA stated in a press release that Canavan would forecast “with at least as much accuracy” as Phil. In addition, she will wear a groundhog costume if that is preferred by the club.

In the press release, she stated that she “will gladly travel to Pennsylvania to take Phil’s place, live in the town library all year long, livestream her monotonous life all year long, and give an equally unscientific weather forecast on February 2.”

The organization is asking that Phil, and his companion, Phyllis, be sent to a reputable sanctuary in exchange.

Punxsutawney Phil will either predict an early spring or six more weeks of winter on Thursday, unless Dunkel accepts PETA’s invitation.

PETA has always been known for making a statement, regardless of how it is received by the public. This begs the question: what could they be planning for Groundhog Day? Though it may be insane to disrupt an event that has been going on for over 100 years, that certainly wouldn’t stop them from using their resources in an attempt to spread their message; in fact that might just embolden them more. We should definitely expect something that’s meant to shock us all on the day or before. We just need to sit back and watch as PETA makes fools of themselves as they kick off their New Year.
