Walmart Makes Heartbreaking Announcement That Will Affect Customers

It seems like liberal-run cities can’t get anything right anymore – from destroying their economies and driving away businesses, to allowing the crime rate to soar. It’s becoming increasingly apparent that Democrat-run cities are failing in all sorts of ways, and now Portland is being added to this list. When will these city officials wake up and realize that their policies are doing more harm than good?

Portland has had to deal with the impacts of a growing anti-fascist and Black Lives Matter presence in recent years, leading to protests and direct action that have now become costly to the state. Walmart’s decision to permanently close its two locations in Hayden Meadows and East Port Plaza marks a significant step in acknowledging the impact these democratic policies are having on the major city. Although Walmart is citing financial reasons for the closure, it’s obviously due to the crippling crime.

Fox News reports, due to financial reasons, Walmart will permanently close all of its Portland, Oregon, locations.

KPTV reported Walmart’s announcement, “we have nearly 5,000 stores across the U.S. and unfortunately some do not meet our financial expectations. While our underlying business is strong, these specific stores haven’t performed as well as we hoped.”

Fox 12 reported and spoke to customers who rely on the stores to ask how that would affect them.

There are also closures planned in Arkansas, Florida, Washington, D.C., Wisconsin, New Mexico, and Illinois, according to the retail staple.

A few months ago, Walmart’s CEO warned that some stores could close, and prices might rise as a result of high retail crime rates.

The CEO of Walmart, Doug McMillon, said in December on CNBC. “Theft is an issue. It’s higher than what it has historically been, prices will be higher and/or stores will close” if authorities don’t crack down on prosecuting shoplifting crimes.

A clothing store called Rains PDX closed permanently in November after a string of break-ins left the store financially devastated. The owner of a shop even posted a blistering note slamming the crime rate in the city on the shop’s doors.

And Portland Nike closed its doors last year following rampant shoplifting incidents, and Cracker Barrel abruptly closed.

Many small businesses and large corporations have been raising issues about crime for at least two years, yet these warnings have seemed to have fallen on deaf ears; leftist leaders have done nothing to address these issues. It’s almost as though they don’t think the people affected by crime are worth it, or that their lives don’t matter enough to intervene. After all, none of them would ever visit those stores – they live in gated or guarded communities far away from such places. Why would they waste their time trying to fix something that doesn’t directly affect them.
