The student loan forgiveness program promoted by President Biden has been a source of controversy, particularly given the political endeavors it was aiming to facilitate. Fortunately, Republicans have been working hard to lay this program to rest, and we now have an update on how close they are getting.

On Monday, Reps. Bob Good (R-VA) and Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) announced legislation to block President Joe Biden’s student loan forgiveness program. This proposal seeks to directly counter the current administration’s policies for student debt relief, which have been largely welcomed by many young Americans who do not see the cloud of smoke.

The Washington Examiner reports, the resolution will express disapproval of an effort to overturn the student loan cancellation program, which is stuck in limbo due to a court battle. In order for the resolution to clear the Senate, it will need a simple majority and will likely be vetoed by Biden.

A press release read, “the student loan transfer plan is just the latest in a series of costly moves by the Biden Administration which continue to drive up inflation. Rep. Good’s Joint Resolution would allow Congress to formally revoke the authority the administration claimed it had to forgive loans.”

Together with Cassidy, the ranking member of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, Sens. John Cornyn (R-TX) and Joni Ernst (R-IA) support the Congressional Review Act resolution.

An estimated 38 Republicans are co-sponsoring the legislation, and multiple groups, including the National Taxpayers Union, the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, Heritage Action, and the America First Policy Institute, are supporting it.

According to the Government Accountability Office, the student loan cancellation plan is subject to the Congressional Review Act, which gives Congress the power to dismantle certain regulations.

In response to the GAO’s approval, Republicans indicated plans to bring legislation to overturn the program, which is estimated to cost $400 billion.

The nerve for Biden to even consider this votoe-ing such a strike from congress tells you everything you need to know about how desperate he is. He says he wants to fix inflation and is here he is thinking of spending $400 to erase for people who made active choices to go to college.
