In yet another instance of the Left’s blatant hypocrisy and double standard, Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, has been granted a free pass by the Department of Justice (DOJ) on federal gun and tax charges. Avoiding jail time by pleading guilty to two measly tax misdemeanors and entering a probation agreement for a gun charge, Hunter’s preferential legal treatment has provoked outrage among conservative circles, who decry the blatant disregard for justice.
Even more galling is Attorney General Merrick Garland’s refusal to hold Hunter Biden accountable for his actions, despite the mountains of damning evidence against him. When asked about the degree of punishment Hunter Biden received, Garland conveniently referred the reporter to the U.S. Attorney on the case for questions about the investigation’s conclusion. This clear lack of leadership and accountability is shameful and shows the Left’s stark contrast to the Right’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and equal justice for all.
The charges brought against Hunter Biden follow a years-long investigation by the Federal District of Delaware into his alleged failed tax payments and lying on a federal firearm application. Hunter Biden is also the subject of several other probes, including his highly-scrutinized business dealings when serving on the board of a Ukraine energy company. It is clear that Hunter is no stranger to corruption and criminal behavior, yet the DOJ seems content to let him off easy.
Many Republican presidential candidates have rightfully slammed the DOJ’s deal with Hunter Biden as a “sweetheart deal” and a “two-tiered system of justice,” including the former President Donald Trump himself, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, and conservative radio personality Larry Elder. South Carolina Senator Tim Scott argued that Biden’s legal treatment was a “slap on the wrist,” and former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley said it poses more questions than answers.
This outrage is not unfounded, considering that this lenient treatment is in stark contrast to the way the DOJ has dealt with conservatives in the past. It is obvious that the DOJ has a clear bias and is unwilling to hold Democrats accountable for their wrongdoing. This is unacceptable.
We must demand transparency and accountability from the DOJ and all branches of government to ensure that justice is served equally and without bias. We cannot let the Left continue to get away with their blatant disregard for the rule of law. The American people deserve better than this.
