In a dangerous move that has sent shockwaves through the state of Illinois, Governor J.B. Pritzker has signed a bill that will allow illegal immigrants to become police officers. This is a clear and present threat to the safety and security of our communities. The Fraternal Order of Police has rightly opposed the bill, questioning what message it sends when people who do not have legal status are given the power to enforce our laws.

Illinois state Sen. Chapin Rose has described this as a “fundamental breach” of democracy, as non-citizens could now be arresting American citizens. It’s unfathomable that this has even been allowed to happen. What kind of nation are we if our own elected officials are willing to put the safety of their own citizens at risk in such a brazen way?
The fact that we have a shortage of police officers is no excuse for such a reckless decision. It’s clear that the policies pursued by the state and major metro areas like Chicago, which are largely opposed by police, have put a strain on law enforcement in Illinois. But the solution is not to allow illegal immigrants to take jobs that should be reserved for American citizens.

It’s not just this bill that has caused concern either. Governor Pritzker has signed several other controversial bills into law, including one that requires state agencies to add “non-binary” or “gender non-conforming” categories to employment reports. This is yet another example of liberal politicians pandering to the extreme left.
Another new law targets crisis pregnancy centers, allowing Illinois’ attorney general to investigate cases of alleged consumer fraud. However, this is just a smokescreen to attack pro-life centers that suggest a link between abortion and breast cancer or infertility. The law is an attempt to silence pro-life speech under the guise of “consumer protection.”

The Thomas More Society, a conservative law firm that fights for religious liberty and free speech, has rightfully filed a suit against the law. This is a blatant attempt by pro-abortion politicians to target pregnancy help ministries and fine them $50,000 for daring to have a pro-life viewpoint.
This is a dangerous time for the state of Illinois and frankly all Democrat-run areas, as liberal politicians prioritize their own political agendas over the safety and well-being of their constituents.
